I was shocked and a little upset to learn the other day that chicken and turkey have about the same amount of cholesterol as beef… (And pork has even more)

Just about all I eat is turkey and chicken. I don't know why, but I thought it was so much better for me than beef. Guess the only thing I'm doing by not eating much beef is cut down the chances of getting Mad Cow Disease or Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease as it is called in humans…

The following is one of the many articles I found on the subject.

Chicken, Turkey, Fish and Cholesterol

Today's post is about Cholesterol and is aimed at non-vegetarians, who believe, incorrectly, that changing a diet which includes red meat and substituting it for a diet which includes; turkey, chicken and fish will help lower their Cholesterol.

But do you realize that there is just as much cholesterol is in all animal products, and that including chicken, turkey and fish.

Dr.John McDougall states in his book, Ten Days to Dynamic Health, that in a 3.5 ounce serving of

Pork contains 90mg of cholesterol

Beef 85mg

Chicken 85mg

Turkey 82mg

Lamb 82mg

Trout 73mg

Milk 49mg

Notice that Beef and Chicken contain the same amount of cholesterol (85mg) and that Turkey and lamb also pair of with 82mg in a 3.5 ounce serving. On the other hand all plant food clock in at exactly 0mg of cholesterol. Now for anyone wanting to lower their cholesterol that's important news.

The message here is simple if you are serious about lowering your cholesterol then the best bet is to change to a plant-based diet.

So the next time you eat chicken or fish with the thought that those foods will lower your cholesterol, think again!
