Hi everyone,
There was a short little story on the Today Show this morning where they asked who Mary Magdelene really was. How she's usually portrayed as a prostitute but there's no Biblical reference to back that up.
They of course mentioned the theories in The DaVinci Code and then they interviewed Elaine Pagels the Princeton(??) professor who wrote The Gnostic Gospels. ( A book I HIGHLY recommend!)
She said she doesn't feel there is enough evidence to say Jesus and Mary were ever married but she says there are many texts that support the idea that Mary Magdelene was known as the "Apostle's Apostle" and that she really was the one that knew and understood Jesus message the best.
It was a short but interesting little piece.
Tomorrow they'll do one on Mary The Mother.
I've always been fascinated with Mary Magdelene. I'm glad she's being discussed as something other than a prostitute. It's about time!
