Doug Green's Garden
I'm not saying this fall has been hectic. Nope.  It's been the entire summer right from arriving home from Savannah to hauling the sailboat out yesterday. Been busy indeed.  I have high hopes November will allow us to return to sanity and my preferred living speed.

The veg garden is almost totally put to bed.  We haven't had a frost here yet (close though) so we still have tomatoes slowly ripening and Mayo is loathe to pull them out.  I'll likely get them week after next one way or the other and then finish off laying down mulch over that garden. Most of the veg garden is mulched now; we only started doing it this fall.  We'll keep a few inches of old hay/straw on top of it from now on.  Simply pile the compost/manure on top of the mulch.

I moved some perennials but not as many as I had planned.  I have to expand the gardens to move them and the cascade effect is in full swing here. Before you can build the gardens, you have to…..   There's a long line of have-to's.  I did get a small section of it built and I'm confident it will work nicely so "next year".

If you're a beginning gardener, do understand there's always "next year" in the garden.  You'll never be fully happy with your current year's garden nor will you ever stop dreaming about how you'd like your garden to look.

Having said that, the best time to plant a tree was 15 years ago.  The second best time is today or tomorrow.  There's good deals at the garden centers now and trees and shrubs are easily moved in the fall.  Just sayin'.

I'm moving to every second week of newsletters so there won't be one next week.

Questions

Changed up the formats again so you can ask questions whenever you have them. PLEASE, please read the instructions though.

Other question forms are on the other sites - please ensure you're on the right site for the content area you're looking for.  In other words, if you have a container gardening question, please ask it on the site that has "container gardening" in the navigation bar.

The easiest way is to run a search (on the bottom of the site pages)

Lifelong Learning

I've signed up for several courses this fall and winter (I'm a confirmed lifelong learner) - one on dry stone construction so I can build stone structures in my garden.  And the other two are writing courses.  Have other plans for scuba certification this winter as well.
So the question I have for you - what interesting things have you planned to enrich your life this fall and winter?

You can take your time and do it right the first time or cut corners, do it quickly and wind up doing it again. Take your time.  This is true except for running away from lions.  Do this quickly every time.
